Live Your life like there's no tomorrow
After saying goodbye to Sammy and celebrating her short life last
Saturday, I learned of another tragic death. Beth Bansley McCarthy was a
fun, spunky girl I've known my whole life. She had a smile that beamed
and a laugh that was truly contagious. She also had cystic fibrosis. The past
few weeks her husband kept us updated as she waited on a ventilator for
a new pair of lungs. Unfortunately they never came. Now her son is
without a mother, her husband is without his best friend, her parents
are without a daughter, her siblings are without a sister and the world
is without a shining soul.
The past few weeks, it
seems as though I have heard of a dozen deaths. As I sit here at MD
Anderson Cancer Center during my 13 hour day of scans, I look around at
all the people fighting for their future and I can't help but think of
the words printed below Sammy's picture on her Funeral Mass booklet,
which were previously written on her blog when she bravely decided to
give up treatment after her cancer returned:
"In
the meantime live your life like there's no tomorrow. I know it's cliche, but
do it. Remind yourself of what you love and who you love. Tell them.
Then tell them again. Figure out your favorite things.....sounds,
smells, sights.....and surround yourself with them. Anyways, live, love,
laugh. For me!"
