Hi everyone
So sorry it's been so long!
So here's what's been happening. I checked into my lead room at the hospital and the following day, known as 'day 0', I had lift off! At least that's what it felt like after all these months of preparing for this event. And it was completely anti-climatic!
So here's what's been happening. I checked into my lead room at the hospital and the following day, known as 'day 0', I had lift off! At least that's what it felt like after all these months of preparing for this event. And it was completely anti-climatic!
I
had my usual fan club with me; my mom, my sister Colleen and my Uncle
Steve (Aunt Colleen came down later). After the entire floor was
covered with paper in case of any radiation leaks, everyone was asked to
leave and then a nurse hooked up my IV, ran out of the room and shut
the door which resembled a bank vault. A half hour later it was all
over and I felt nothing. For about 20 minutes
that is. Then my head started to pound and the nausea came. And
stayed. The rest is a bit hazy. I was isolated and sick, that I know.
Thankfully I was released the next day due to my radiation numbers
falling so rapidly.
The rest of the week was
mainly spent on the couch. I was tired, weak, shaky and nauseous. I
officially became neutropenic (virtually no immune system) and my blood
counts dropped. I managed to liven up when my two best friends came to
town though. Having Suzie and Ker here by my side to entertain me,
pamper me, and make me laugh made me feel 110% better. I'm so lucky to
have them in my life. I was sad to see them go.
As
great as it was when Ker and Suz were here, things fell apart the
minute they left. My mom got sick, which can be dire in my state, so we
must keep away from each other and live on opposite sides of the condo.
My blood counts dropped more resulting in a platelet transfusion
yesterday. I got platelets from six different people. So amazing.
Thanks to my friends Alison and Audrey Stein who so generously gave not
only their blood but their time. I'm so grateful!
I
am back to being tired, weak, blah, blah, blah, etc.......My sister
Maribeth was supposed to come today, but she too is sick therefore she
had to cancel her trip. I am scheduled for another transfusion in the
morning. And more time on the couch I'm sure.
I
have to say it again because it deserves repeating. I can't thank
everyone enough for all the mail and packages! It truly makes my day.
Thank you.
Jen
