Update

As you know, I left for Houston on Sunday. Monday began a 10 hour day of fasting, tests, scans, x-rays, needles, pokes and prods. On Tuesday I waited anxiously for the results that came on Wednesday at my meeting with the doctor. No tumors in the liver or lungs! That was our biggest concern. I still have tumors throughout my bones, but with the organs being disease free, I am able to proceed with the transplant. As usual, there was one glitch, which were some nodules on my thyroid. They didn't seem to be of any concern, but we had to double check, so instead of flying home Wednesday night, I stayed to do some scans on Thursday afternoon. Because of the Hurricane Ike, the hospital was closing and I almost was unable to do the tests, but at the last minute I was able to get blood work, do an ultrasound and rush to the airport to fly home on the last flight before the whole city shut down.

It turns out that my thyroid is fine and I will be moving to Texas in two or three weeks! The reason I can't just go  now is that my body has to be free of Zometa, the bone strengthening IV I get once a month, for 30 days before I can get Samarium, the radioactive drug being used during the transplant.

I thank you all so much for saying those extra prayers this week. They certainly worked! I really do appreciate them. I must say a special thank you to Dr. Susan Lochhead and Katie Johnson. Their kind help, love and support last week was tremendous. I treasure them and am so blessed to have them in my life.

Love,

Jen
