Looking back/forward

Hi Everyone,

Two years ago in beautiful San Diego, California I walked 60 miles in three days to raise money for breast cancer. With five friends by my side, it was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.  There are no words to describe the emotions we experienced  on that journey.  We laughed, cried, whined and talked about every topic imaginable, but mostly we watched.  We watched in awe of a woman who walked with an oxygen tank, a young man who walked alone in honor of his sister that had just died, a dad and daughter who walked hand in hand with matching t-shirts that had a picture of their wife/mother who had succumbed to breast cancer.  We watched amazingly as a man completed the long, hilly route in a wheelchair.  And then there were those who came out to watch us, cheer us on, give us water and food, play music and dance for us, clap for us.  There were frat boys in their underwear who painted themselves pink and policemen who stood and saluted as 2000 of us passed by.  We watched as a city came together for a common goal, to help stop cancer.

This weekend one of the girls is bravely walking again.  This time Shannon Ryan Nicosia is walking in my honor in steep San Francisco.  Please think of Shannon and her friends as you walk out your door Friday morning and walk to your bed on Sunday night and know that she has been selflessly walking ALL weekend to raise money in the hope that your mother, sister, wife, girlfriend, aunt, daughter or friend never has to hear the words "you have cancer".

Shannon, I wish I was joining you, but know that I am with you in spirit.  Thanks for 'taking one for the team' again!

As for me, I will be going to MD Anderson in Houston for a full day of tests on Monday, September 8th.  I will wait there for the results and meet with my transplant doctor on Wednesday.  If the results are good then we should be able to set a date for my move to Houston and get the transplant started!

Love,

Jen
