Update

Hi All,

I'm writing to ask for prayers.  Not for me but for my friend Chris Coulon.  Chris started his stem cell transplant last week at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.  He is doing an allogeneic transplant, meaning he will use stem cells from a donor (his sister) which will require him to be in the hospital for three weeks.  Let's pray that his body tolerates this treatment well so that he can get well and go home to his sweet wife JoAnna and adorable baby Mae.

I recently learned of a girl named Sammy who has pancreatic cancer.  Sammy should be at college living with her friends and enjoying life like any other 20 year old.  Instead, she is home fighting for her life.  Sammy may have a chance to treat her illness by having a multiple organ transplant.  To learn more about Sammy please visit her site www.sammyscamp.com. And please keep her in your prayers.

Last February a girl I went to college with passed away from a brain tumor.  Molly Firth Hooper was the oldest of five children in her family and I have just learned that her youngest brother John is battling the same brain tumor while her younger sister Mary has learned her Melanoma has metastasized.  Molly, John and Mary all have Caringbridge sites that you can visit.  Please pray for them and for their entire family during this trying time.

As for me, I am anxiously awaiting news as to when I can start my transplant.  Each time I think I am about to get the okay to pack up and move to Houston, there seems to be 'just one more thing' that needs to be done.  Last week it was a psych/soc interview to make sure I will have a caregiver by my side 24/7, which is a requirement for all transplants; to make sure I have a place to live while I'm in Houston for approximately 10 weeks, which I do thanks to the kindness of Dawn Burns and the generosity of the Jim Burns Foundation (please see the link on my website if you are not familiar with the foundation), and to be sure that I have support for when I return home from the transplant.  The answer to that question was definitely yes!  Everyone has been so supportive already and I feel well!  I can't image that there is any better support out there.  I thank each and every one of you for that.  I am so lucky to have the family and friends that I do.  The interview I had with the Social Worker at MD Anderson made me realize that there are people out there that go through this alone.  Please say a prayer for them.

I will keep you informed as soon as I hear anything.  Thank you for checking in and thank you for caring.

Love,
Jen
